Hi, my name is Mr. Newman and I am one of two PE Teachers at BLRA. I was born in New Orleans, LA where I attended Holy Cross High School. I was a three sport athlete; Football (Tight End, Defensive End), Basketball (Center, Power Forward), Track and Field (Discus and Shot Put). My Junior year I finished 6th in state competition (Discus) and my Senior year I finished 2nd in state competition (Discus).
After high school I attended the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) on a Track and Field Scholarship to throw the Discus and Shot Put and I was also a "walk-on" on the football team. After my first year of collegiate track, I decided to do the Decathlon along with the my throwing events. My Junior and Senior year of college I was the Metro Conference Champion in the Discus.
I received my BS in Coaching and Sports Administration from USM and my MS in Exercise and Sport Science from Colorado State University (CSU).
I have worked in the Strength and Conditioning/Fitness field for 18 years and it is a huge part of my daily lifestyle. Once I moved to Colorado I added snow boarding and mountain biking to my list of activities. Last but not least, I could not give up on my favorite past time, American Football. I have played a total of five years in the Colorado Football Conference (Minor League Football)...two years with the Generals and three years with the Flames (four championship appearances and two championship victories).
This will be my fifth year teaching PE and coaching middle school football at BLRA and it seems as though our PE program improves every year. Two years ago we introduced the kids to Flag Rugby and just last year we introduced the kids to Archery, which was a huge success. I am excited to get the 2014-2015 school year and football season started. Speaking of Stallion Football...the Stallions have played in three Division Championship games in four years and have won two Division Championships.
Welcome back Stallions!
